Workshop Four: Interdisciplinary perspectives on family life

The aim of the fourth workshop in the current series is to focus upon family life and to consider the potentials offered by adopting an interdsciplinary focus to family and household research. Darren Smith (University of Brighton) will be the keynote speaker on the day and there will also be panel presentations from a number of social scientists conducting research about families and households. The workshop is open to anyone with an interest in children, youth, families and households. The workshop will also include discussion groups focusing on key topics and issues connected with family life and there will be scope to include short position papers (5-10 minutes) within the workshops. If you would like to propose a specific discussion topic or position paper you should contact the workshop organiser (peter.hopkins@ncl.ac.uk) by 28th March 2008. Possible topics of interest may include: intergenerational relations; gender roles and the household; researching family life; traditional and alternative family set-ups.

Registration
Please note that numbers are limited and places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Please complete the attached registration form and e-mail it to Dr Peter Hopkins (peter.hopkins@ncl.ac.uk), or send it to the address on the form, by 28th March 2008.

Bursaries
There are bursaries available for postgraduate students. If you would like to be considered for a bursary to support your attendance, please send a short paragraph to Peter Hopkins (peter.hopkins@ncl.ac.uk) with details of the funding required along with clarification that there are no other sources of support available.

Costs
Payments (£15 full fee, £10 for students/unwaged) should be sent with the registration form. The registration deadline is 28th March 2008. Please note that bookings made after this date will incur a late booking fee of £5. Tea/coffee and lunch will be provided on the day.
