2ND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON GEOGRAPHIES OF EDUCATION

(10-11th September 2012, Loughborough University, UK)

Over the past decade geographers with diverse philosophical and methodological orientations, and with varied areal specialisms, have exhibited a growing interest in education. This second international conference on geographies of education at Loughborough University responds to the diversity of this interest in spaces of education within geography and cognate disciplines. Drawing together scholars from different research traditions, and focusing on elements of both the formal primary/secondary/further/higher education systems and informal learning environments, it seeks to provide a space in which we can debate key themes and concepts in the production, consumption and impact of education, learning and knowledge in multiple social, cultural, economic and political contexts. To do this the conference is organised around three key intersecting themes:

The Conference is organised by the Centre for Research in Identity, Governance, Society, based in the Department of Geography, Loughborough University. There will be a limited number of bursaries to support the attendance of new career, postgraduate and unwaged delegates. Please send abstracts (maximum 200 words) to Professor Sarah Holloway (S.L.Holloway@Lboro.ac.uk), Michael Hoyler (M.Hoyler@Lboro.ac.uk) or Dr Darren Smith (D.P.Smith@Lboro.ac.uk) by 1st December 2011.
